Checking Weather Conditions

When you’re out boating, it’s super important to keep an eye on the weather. This is really key for everyone’s safety, especially if you have people on board who aren’t very experienced. Always make plans that everyone on the boat can handle.

Stay Updated on Weather: You should always keep checking the weather. You can use a Very High Frequency (VHF) radio and find the weather channel. If you have a smartphone with you, weather apps can be really helpful too if you can keep an internet connection on your trip.

Know Your Boat: It’s also a must for the person driving the boat to understand what the boat can and can’t do. This means knowing how the boat moves, what it’s like in different weather (like wind, tides, and currents), and how well it works in those conditions.

Be Ready for Changes: Weather can change fast and make it hard to see, steer, and use your boat’s electronics, including  talking to others on the radio. Always be ready for these changes.
